Glycine, abbreviated as Gly or G, is the simplest one of the 20 amino acids commonly found in proteins and is a non-essential amino acid in the human body. It is commonly used in the preparation of various buffers in biochemical experiments, including electrophoresis buffers for PAGE gels and electrotransfer buffers for WB. In addition, in the central nervous system, especially the spinal cord, glycine is an important inhibitory neurotransmitter (Inhibitory neurotransmitter) and an allosteric modulator of NMDA receptors.
